Communion 2

For Lutherans, worship stands at the center of our life of faith. Through God’s word, water, bread and prayer we are nurtured in faith and sent out into the world.

Connected with and central to everything we do, worship unites us in celebration, engages us in thoughtful dialogue and helps us grow in faith. It grounds us in our Christian and Lutheran roots, while demonstrating practical relevance for today’s world.

Central to our worship life is the presence of God through word and sacrament. The word proclaimed and the sacraments —both Holy Baptism and Holy Communion — are called the means of grace. We believe that Jesus Christ is present in these means through the power of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes we describe worship as a “gathering around the means of grace.”

There is also a basic pattern for worship among Lutherans. We gather. We encounter God’s word. We share a meal at the Lord’s table. And we are sent into the world. But we do not think about worship so much in terms of what we do. Worship is fundamentally about what God is doing and our response to God’s action.

Worship is an encounter with God, who saves us through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Ministries

Ministries at Faith

TEAM

Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry (TEAM) began back in 2007 when Faith Lutheran, along with 7-9 other area churches, began providing food and clothing for local families in need. Faith has a place on the board, supports the ministry with ongoing food and clothing drives, and provides ongoing support for the ministry. This past Epiphany, Faith collected over 650 cans and boxes of food to support our neighbors.

Grace Community Kitchen

Community Kitchen

The second Saturday of every month, members at Faith Lutheran help feed our neighbors in Woodlawn. The Grace Community Kitchen is located in the historic Grace Episcopal Church, where the “street and altar meet.”  The Kitchen is just one of the many ministries at Grace, serving meals each day from 1-2pm for roughly 70-100 folks in need. We are blessed to be able to assist with this ministry.

Quilters

Each Tuesday at 10 AM, members of Faith gather to quilt. Thousands of quilts have been donated to Lutheran World Relief. Soap, school kits, and fabric kits have also been provided.  Please feel free to stop in and help, extra hands are always welcome!

Yearly Ministries

Martha Lewis

Each Advent, the children collect money and purchase animals through the ELCA good gifts campaign. The past year, we were able to purchase 2 roosters, 40 chickens, 2 hives of bees, 2 sheep, and 4 goats!

The choir takes their show on the road each Advent and performs at one of the area assisted living homes. This past year they traveled to sing for the good people at the Olive Home in Oneonta.

Christmas Parade

The Clay Christmas Parade goes right by our front door so each year we treat the parade watchers to hot chocolate and candy canes.

Adam Concert

Adam Bowles, our long-time pianist, presents an Advent concert each year for the community. What a joy it is to hear him perform not only Christmas Carols but music from the standard piano repertoire.

Stephen

The Stephen Ehrensperger Memorial Blood Drive takes place each year in November. We welcome all from the community who are able to give the gift of life.

Summer Program 2019

Our preschool ministry has been serving families with young children in Clay and the surrounding communities since 2006. The goal of our ministry is to offer quality childcare with affordable tuition so all God’s children can attend preschool. Our school year program is offered for children ages 2-4 and meets Monday through Friday from 9am-1pm. A summer program is offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9am-1pm.
The Preschool program provides a loving, safe and clean place to grow and learn. Guided by the Exceed curriculum, teachers use a hands-on approach in teaching our little ones. The children love to express their creativity during theme based weeks which include transportation, community helpers, nursery rhymes, the zoo, and many more! The children always look forward to special events like trick or treating, a Christmas program and feast, Dr. Seuss’ birthday, pajama day, and a special end of the year program.
